Grey heron

Grey heron (Ardea cinerea).

This year for the third time I visit Lake Kerkini in Greece.

Due to the repair of the locks, the water was very low and there was no more than 1/2 m of water under the boat’s keel.

But for all 9 times visiting the lake, this gray heron invariably stands on the harbor.

We even joke with Vasilios (owner of several pleasure boats) that she is the official photo model 🙂

So this photo model, the Gray Heron is a bird with great adaptive capacity, the only thing it needs is fish-rich and minimal peace of mind for humans.

  1. Herons visit our local ponds occasionally, but I don’t have to go too far to find them on more substantial bodies of water. I saw a beautiful one on my recent visit to Berlin.
