Yesterday, I posted a photo of the homemade sushi by my niece. Another dish made from fresh raw fish that day is a Filipino dish called in-law.
Kinilaw is a dish made of raw fish meat mixed with coconut vinegar, lots of chili peppers, and other spices.
The fish used in this dish is tangigue (a type of mackerel). The dish must be prepared a few hours before serving, letting the vinegar and spices seep into the fish meat. This particular dish was prepared the night before.

And it tastes delicious too… Although some people don’t like the idea of eating raw fish.
I have eaten Herring before, but do not care for it that much lol.
This looks amazing. I have not tried it, but will have to see if anyone around us serves Filipino food!
I love sushi!
There might be some Filipinos in your neighborhood, who knows… But they might offer you Pork Adobo instead. Which is a more popular Filipino dish. Hehehe.
i found a Filipino restaurant on the west side of Washington DC. Next time (next week actually) I am in the city it is the lunch destination.
You should try. My sister-in-law prepared adobo for dinner. I will post a photo of it later. 😀
thanks. I am looking forward to the lunch!
never tried this before …………..
I guess you should try it one of these days… 😀
One needs to get acquired to eat raw fish. I have not tried it so far.
Unlike, sushi, Kinilaw is somewhat ‘cooked’ by the vinegar. That’s why the fish should be prepared at least an hour before serving. As you can see, the fish meat has turned to white and no longer red-ish in color… and the chili pepper takes away the ‘fishy’ smell…
Something like fish pickle.
Well… maybe you can say that… 😀
I tried raw fish but I can’t say I’m a big fan!?
