February 8 is a Slovenian cultural holiday – in memory of the deceased poet, Doctor France Prešeren, in 1849, it is also called Prešeren’s Day. On that day, the Presidency declared the Presidency of the Slovenian National Liberation Council. The new state also kept it and declared it a day off in 1991. On this day, the central national celebration is held, at which the Prešeren Awards and the Prešeren Fund Awards for Excellence in the Arts in Slovenia are presented. France Prešeren was born on December 3, 1800 in a farm family in Vrba na Gorenjskem. On the monument in the heart of Ljubljana, the poet is accompanied by his muse – but, as we know, he faces the window of the house where Primic’s Julia lived.

For us in the US, we have February and January cultural events. We celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King and Geroge Washingon in January.
This is a great festival. I will have to look up some of his poems!
Thanks for watching and kind comment, dear friend….it was nice and fun with us too
my apologies I meant to say George Washingon’s birthday is celebrated in February.
But I remembered George Washington, dear friend … we studied at school … was he the first American president?
He was, the very first! i was more apologizing because i lumped MLK and Washington into January.
And when are you celebrating MLK? ……. January?
Its wonderful to celebrate your culture.

We have many days like President Day is next Monday the 17th.
President’s Day, also known as Washington’s Birthday, is on the third Monday of February each year and is a federal holiday in the United States. The day not only honors George Washington (born February 22), the first President of the United States, and Abraham Lincoln (born February 12) whose birthdays are both in February, but honors all the presidents who have served in the United States.
Thank you for your visit and nice comment, dear Carol….we don’t honor our presidents …. we had some great poets and writers …. he was the greatest poet and one of his poems is also in our anthem … not the whole song is just one kitty
