When I began doing renders, I went for a photoreal approach. There is nothing wrong with it and this is quite common, but as my command of the medium evolved I wanted to be able to get back to my fine art roots
Case in point- the original renders of the matrioshka series are as photoreal as I could make them, and were often mistaken for actual dolls. On the other hand, there is a fine art treatment of the same series; almost a postmodern approach. I thought I’d post both versions here and see which way you preferred…

You know my choice, don’t you?
If I had to guess, probably fine art but I’ve already been wrong about it a few times…
If I want to see a photo, I don’t need to look for it from your works, right?
You raise a most excellent point, oh brother mine…
Both approaches are great, but I loved the photoreal versions.
The photoreal versions are overwhelmingly more popular, but I am a bit surprised that the votes aren’t equal…
I noticed that too. Maybe someone found it hard to choose just one method.
Or wanted to confuse me. And it worked, too…
It looks like I drybrushed gesso over a photograph, doesn’t it?
looks more like brushstrokes than scribbles
The photo real is incredible!
For some reason I thought you’d prefer the fine art, shows what I know…
That’s an interesting post! I love the Russian culture!
I am also a fan of Russian culture, it features repeatedly in my work. I especially love their headgear; astrakhans, kokoshniks, ushankas… all featured in my art
Very beautiful images I prefer the photorealistic.
You are in good company
Very beautiful images I prefer the photorealistic.
A common sentiment so far
They are very beautiful Alex!!!
You liked the original recipe so much, I thought I’d try the spicy version and see how you liked it
Unfortunately, you can’t see the full images. D’oh!
