Do You Use a Food Processor or Blender?

There are many devices available today to make cooking a much simpler proposition than it was in times past. This includes everything from microwave ovens to steamers to electric mixers and can openers to steamers to bread makers to hot air ovens and many other useful gadgets.

I enjoy cooking and I do have several of these. However, the two appliances I use the most, other than the stove, oven, and microwave, are the blender and the food processor. Naturally, I use the blender for blending. I make mayonnaise in the blender and use it to scramble eggs for omelets. I can do either by hand, the old-fashioned way, but I can prepare the eggs for an omelet in about 30 seconds by using the blender.

Even more useful to me is the food processor. Grating cheese or potatoes using the hand grater can be time-consuming and a pain, literally. Last night, I made hash browns and it took me perhaps 2 minutes to grate 6 potatoes. I also use it to shred zucchini when I make zucchini bread and for slicing or shredding almost anything I want sliced or shredded.

The food processor I use is old and the blades are getting dull, but I bought it 3 years ago for $10 at a second-hand store and I can’t begin to say how much use it has received. I just ordered a new one yesterday, after considering how much use I was getting out of it. I don’t have much money and it was a $55 expenditure, but it is something that won’t just be taking up space. If I get as much use out of the new one than I’ve gotten from the old one, it will pay for itself several times over and I’ll still have the old one as a backup.

I know that a lot of people don’t have or use a food processor or blender, hence, the question. The picture is of the food processor I ordered.

    • I use both, too, often. The new food processor is going to be an early birthday gift for my wife (her birthday is the 25th), but I’ll get as much use out of it as she will.
