The best way to reward and teach people of any age is creative consequences. If you have not tried it I would highly recommend you get thinking about it today! It is a win – win for everyone involved. I have attempted to do some creative consequences here and that has not been successful. I decided to share some that work at home.
Everyone in my home is medically retired expect me. So they end up doing some of the chores. I love it when they don’t complain and just help out a little.
At bottom of the laundry hamper I wrapped up a box of treats. There was a note that read “Thanks for helping out. Enjoy your treats.”
I didn’t ask them to do it. They didn’t have to thank me. The consequence was a reward for all.

I do my best to do housecleaning and thank my sister for allowing me to assist her.
It’s certainly the best way to encourage people to be active.
Around here, it is just the three of us. Our daughter works, so she does next to no chores, understandably. Up until a couple of months ago, my wife did most of the chores, since I was trying to make money by writing. I take care of the animals, the yard, etc, and a little more than half the cooking. Starting about 2 months ago, my wife decided that she didn’t want to do housework, so rather than just letting it go, I started doing the dishes, laundry, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, steam cleaning, dusting, nearly all of the cooking, etc, as well as the other stuff I was doing already, while she works on her crafts or volunteers time down at the church. Eventually, she will start doing her share again. I don’t complain since I’d be doing all of that anyway if I was single, so I’m really not losing anything.
I agree… I’m going to try
