as the drum sounds in the distance
and we stumble
over uneven concrete and brick
laid in a pattern
now long lost.
Do you remember our goal
when we laid the pattern
then again and then not now?
Each brick laid in
perfection
only to shift
with the passage of time
and become
less a brick
and more now a memory.
As the drums beat in the distance.
Do you remember our goal?
As we climb the crevices
and fall
into the dust
the drums grow no closer
and what was
is no more.

Have you ever come upon something you did long ago, but you can’t remember why you did that then?

Wonderful song. Yes, I also have moments, but it’s part of life.
Thank you, I wrote it a few years ago when I was struggling. Now, I have moved on but then I was in the midst of the confusion!
Even such things unfortunately happen to me
I suspect they happen to all of us over time. Sometimes we have to rise from the loss to become stronger!
I totally agree with you my friend….
Great words and a beautiful photo!
Thanks, Ellie!!!! It is a poem I wrote about 10 years ago, when I was struggling with my choice of careers.
Oh, I have such moments too. I liked the work very much.
I have such moments, it can be hard to let them go! Thanks!!!!
I was briefly reminded of the Pink Floyd song Another Brick in the Wall. Great job here. I write in journals but never publish them.
I understand not publishing them! They are often personal and very private. Thanks for the kind words, Carol!
