Hill of Crosses

Have you Heard of Hill of Crosses in Lithuania? It is one of the tourist destinations in Lithuania and in fact, many were saying that your Lithuanian trip is not complete without visiting it.

It is just a hill full of crosses. At this time it is estimated to be around 300,000 crosses planted on it,  plus 1 because I had my contribution, too.

The history of the hill of crosses is simple for rebellion in 1831. The Hill of Crosses was visited also by Pope John Paul II. Most people who are visiting there offer erect their own crosses. This place is quiet serene and peaceful.

Religious or not, Catholic or not it is really a historical place to see as you will see a hill full of different crosses in different sizes and different make. Some metal, concrete, and would you believe lego pieces? Mine is made of shells, mostly were wooden. Pay a visit and you will really see what I mean.

  1. This is such an amazing place! You were lucky to have a chance to go there. It’s great that you had your own cross to put there. It’s nice to travel to faraway places.

  2. I googled it. Over the generations, not only crosses and crucifixes, but statues of the Virgin Mary, carvings of Lithuanian patriots and thousands of tiny effigies and rosaries have been brought here by Catholic pilgrims.

    • yes, it was majestic actually. We were in awe and it proves that if people only have a will it can really happen. like what people who are visiting here… putting a cross…
