#1 Myrtos Beach
Myrtos is a  stunning looking pebbly beach located west from Ierapetra.
Must know: The drive can be a bit rough, and due to the pebbles it is advisable to take some foot wear with you.
#2 The Balos Lagoon
Balos Lagoon is also referred to as the ‘Carribean sea’ due to its stunning scenery, the white sand and the crystal, blue water.
#3 Falassarna Beach
Falassarna is an exotic beach located 17km west of Kissamos. Its turquoise waters and the white or pinkish sand are surely going to enchant you.
You should know that the area around Falassarna is Natura protected and it is not allowed to take sand with you.
#4 Agios Pavlos Sandhills
Agios Pavlos Sandhills is a peaceful beach located 58km south of Rethymno.
For many people it  is considered to be one of the best beaches of Crete and it is located in the southern part of the island.
#5 Seitan Limania – Stefanou Beach
Seitan Limania Beach is an amazing, hidden beach located 22 kilometers from Chania.
Accessed after a rocky climb down, or by boat this is a place worth visiting. It can be pretty crowded in the summer months and if you visit, get ready to see rock climbing goats as well!
#6 Matala Bay
One of the most popular tourist destinations in Crete, Matala beach, is located close to Phaistos Palace and was home to the hippies during the 70s.
Many of the caves located at Matala have rooms, stairs or even windows and this suggests that they were once used as residencies.
#7 Preveli Beach
Preveli beach with its riverside palms is one of the most famous and beloved beaches in Crete. It is located about 35km south of Rethymno.
Stone Age tools unearthed near Preveli Beach indicate that homo erectus had reached Crete, somewhat 130.000 years ago, as per the archaeologist Professor of Art History Mr Thomas Strasser.
#8 Skinaria Beach
Skinaria (or Shinaria) Beach is a small beach located south of Rethymno.
Its seabed is mostly rocky, and on the beach there are small ponds with fresh water coming from springs carrying water from the mountains.
It is believed to be great for snorkeling, having calm and clear waters.
