Beautiful waterfalls in Kocani, Macedonia

The city of Kocani is located 120 km from the capital Skopje, more precisely it occupies the northern side of Kocanska valley and covers the area on both sides of the river Kocanska. The city has a southern placement in relation to the 2252-meter high Osogovo Mountains, and the fertile Kocani field ends 8 km to the south of Kocani and starts the mountain Plachkovica. Kochani lies 350 to 450 meters above sea level. Near Kocani is the famous winter resort of Ponikva, which runs an asphalt road in excellent condition, about 20 km long.

The artificial lake “Gradce” is located at the foothills of Osogovo Mountains in a beautiful picturesque gorge, with a very attractive environment and is located about 6 km north of the city of Kocani. This place is full of goals when it comes to resting and finding peace and tranquility from the everyday city noise and hard life that is an integral part of everyday life. A six-kilometer ride through nature north of the city of rice divides you from the little paradise on earth.

The lake is 3 km long, about 2.5 km wide, and the whole lake can be bypassed along the paths that surround it. In the function of the visitors, on the west coast of the lake is the hotel “Gradce” which has a beautiful view of the lake and the nature around it, and near the hotel, on the dam itself on the artificial lake is the old motel with a lovely garden, which is only a few meters above the water level.

Quite interesting is the great waterfall, which was created in a strange way. Namely, in 1958 an auxiliary dam of stone blocks was built whose function was to prevent abruptlyThe coming of water to the site “Flat Scale”, where today’s dam was built. From the swollen branches, stones and soil, the auxiliary dam began to be filled with soil, and over the years a beautiful waterfall with a height of twenty meters of the waters of Golema Reka was created, from where these waters flow into the artificial lake. The waterfall is a distance of more than 1 km from the hotel, but by following the road signs on the road that leads to the waterfall, it is easy to reach it.
