I found these young bracket fungi growing on an old willow tree. As you see, it is rusty-brown in colour when young, later turning to grey, and finally becoming black and fissured. Willow Bracket fungus is a tough inedible fungus.

I do not remember such a fungus anywhere here in the Outaouais region where I live. It certainly has a fairly strange shape. But you have captured it well color and all.

Fungus is a parasite because it depends on another plant to grow, but there are many edible fungi. Many of these are used for medical use.
