GMO Microbes

source

The estimate is that the world population could possibly grow from eight billion to nine billion people by the end of this decade.  That means that there will be less land available to grow crops for the entire earth.  How will be able to grow more food with less land?

Well, Monsanto is doing research on increasing crop yields by genetically modifying the microbes that are in the soil.  They are looking at what type of bacteria and fungi that promote the growth of crops in various types of environments.

Once those microbes are identified, they are then placed into the soil.  However, genetically modifying the soil could potentially contaminate the entire earth.
