In 2014 we went to Tasmania, a large island off Australia. A beautiful place. A state of its own.
This is the first time I’ve seen a Pelican. A bird with a beak as large as a shopping bag.
Lovely bird.

Here you'll find all collections you've created before.
The pelican looks great! It reminds me of the pelican in Finding Nemo, but I have not seen a real pelican before.
Great shot. Pelican is wonderful. I have not seen him yet.
Thanks Vidocka, Pelicans don’t live in New Zealand, but it was taken in 2014. I was lucky
What a wonderful picture and wonderful bird, which, unfortunately, does not live with us
This one lives in Tasmania, NZ does not have Pelicans either.
Thanks for the explanation …. Tasmania is a province in Australia if I’m not mistaken … I’m not sure
What a great capture! I love pelicans.
Thanks Ellie, I think the Pelican is an extraordinary bird.
Yes indeed, they have a big and large beak but all the more for grabbing as much fish as they can. I do not think we have those quaint looking birds here in Canada although i am not sure especially in the Maritimes provinces. But these birds, because of their wide and long and large beaks often have problems as they get the beaks caught up in metal stuff that can rip the flappy part of the beaks. It is too bad, but I saw a documentary on TV about one guy who rescues the injured pelicans and brings them to a sanctuary to be fixed up. How? I do not remember. Did you take that picture yourself? or is it a snip and paste?
Yes HistoryGal I took that picture myself and I have several other photos. We went to Tasmania in 2014, and it was a first for both of us.
I love Tasmania.
We have bird rescue in New Zealand too, and they do great work to heal New Zealand birds.
I think they’re goofy looking, but a successful design doesn’t have to look good- it only has to work
Thanks Alex, yes it seems that the weight of that large bill will sabotage their flight. Yet they do fly well. Must be a very strong bird.
they expel the excess water but still, it must be heavy until they do
