There was the unmistaken call of a Thick-knee plover or Kiewiet, which was oddly out of place, being mostly a nocturnal bird. Since it nests on the ground, as a defense system, it will shriek and start running around crazily, further and further away from its nest.
The Orange River river is South Africa’s main river. It is 2,090 km long and originates in the Maluti Mountains of Lesotho. It meanders northwest and west through South Africa and forms the SW boundary of South Africa and Namibia line before finally at the Namibian coastal town of Oranjemund, it enters the Atlantic Ocean at Oranjemund. In very dry years it does not reach the sea. Alluvial diamonds are mined At the mouth of the river.
