I’m really lucky to have this wonderful garden and wilderness area just 15 minutes from my home. With free entrance, it comprises a large area of formal gardens, as well as a larger area of nature reserve, comprising part of the left bank of the Slaney River.
#1 Unidentified berries
#2 The Lake
#3 Himalayan balsam (1)
#4 Tradescantia
Spiderwort (Tradescantia) was introduced from the New World in the 17th century. I read in Wikipedia that they have also been used as bioindicators for the detection of environmental mutagens. And no, I don't know what that means 🙂
amazing views! awesome, gardens
Enjoyed this visit to Altamont Gardens. Each of your pics is really nice, with the reflective pool being quite beautiful. Thanks for sharing. We have spiderwort in abundance.

I saw the heading photo before I pulled the story up. I thought it was one of those photos that is cut in thirds by a frame. I was really delighted when I pulled up the story. It was real, great framing there Norman. It’s good to see you showing everyone what I have known for years now. You are a great photographer.
Ah, Kim. You make me blush sometimes! Thanks so much 🙂
Nothing I like better than a wet swim in beautiful places…SpLaSh!

Many thanks for that nice comment, LaJenna 🙂
Norman photos are perfect. I am amazed at the fact that the lake is dug by hand.
In the 1800s, everything was done by hand! Labour was cheap and people needed work. It was a big job, for sure!
We all should have a special place at the Lake.. Serene and bueatiful!
Thank you. We surely should 🙂
” bioindicators for the detection of environmental mutagens.” I would say that it means that if there are mutations in the environment, this plant will show it in some way. Great pictures and thanks for sharing!
Thank you, Rachael. It was late when I posted this, and my brain was really only fit for sleep, so I appreciate your tentative explanation – which seems to make sense!
Beautiful photos, Norman. Great work.
Many thanks, Gary. Appreciated 🙂
