Let me be clear. I believe that legal immigration can be a very positive thing and helped to create a very diverse and strong country.
I also think it is silly to put a whole lot of weight on the Statue of Liberty and what it may mean or stand for. It was a gift from France that we excepted graciously. The words on the statue were provided by an American, but were commissioned and paid for.
The statue is not our creed, but one that was given to us. In fact I am ready to say “Clean up the the wretched refuse of your teeming shore.” Then rebuild your country. I’ve been pushed too hard.
Umm so two months ago and I was really not pleased with illegal immigration. My husband reminded me that there was a personal reason. Sorry if I spouted to much here. (DocAndersen, do you feel like are raising an adult children and trying to keep me on the right track?)
Interesting, most of New Zealand are immigrants too, the Maori people were the first.
Yet, I agree with clean up the rubbish by the statue of liberty.
All the earth needs that
That is a good point.
I suspect there is much to unpack in this. I won’t argue the reality of immigration. I have a little first people blood in my heritage.
But I would say this.
there are NO people, including the first people that are native to the Americas. all of us immigrated here.
I have no idea how many posts and replies I have missed. At one time I believed I was on top of things. I am down right delusional.
There was a time when I avoided notifications because I was tired of nasty comments.
Not anymore! You do what you can do! I love our many conversations, I am always happy to have delayed conversations as welL!!
