What Would You Give Your Right Arm For?

There is a very eerie story in one of my favorite self-help books, The Power of Your Subconscious Mind, by Joseph Murphy.  This book gives numerous examples of how your subconscious mind always does what you tell it to do, obeying the Law of Attraction, often in very literal terms (it doesn’t understand figurative expressions ) As this strange anecdote illustrates:

There was once a man whose young daughter suffered from both crippling rheumatoid arthritis and the disfiguring and painful skin condition, psoriasis. They tried many treatments but nothing the doctors did seemed to work. The father was near despair, and over and over he said to himself and his friends: “I would give my right arm to see my daughter cured.”

One day the family was out for a drive. The car was involved in a head-on collision. Unfortunately the father’s right arm was torn off at the shoulder. Most tellingly, when he came home from the hospital he found that his daughter’s arthritis and skin condition had vanished!

So, as the author of the book concludes, you must be very careful to give your subconscious only those suggestions that heal, bless, elevate and inspire you in all your ways. Otherwise you may get quite literally what you have asked for!
