Love ItLove It

Galeb ship of peace and ship Marsal of Yugoslavia.

It is known that every ship has its own life and its History. It is the same with Galeb. It was built by the Italian sailor in the city of Denova in 1938.

It was named RAMB III. During his service, he changed three names and flags to owners. The first time was a get torpedo in the Libyan waters of 1941.

Allied forces sank it in 1944 near Rijeka. Rijeka is a port city, shipyard in the northern Adriatic Sea and belonged to the Kingdom of Yugoslavia.

After the war, worthy workers of the shipyards pulled out the ship and repaired it greatly.

Because of its appearance, on Srebrnasti galeb (lat. Larus argentatus) the ship get name Galeb from port workers.

In 1953, Josip Broz Tito embarked on his journey for the first time by Galeb, whom he called a ship of peace. He traveled to Great Britain to meet Sir Winston Churchill.

GALEB-ship of peace

Ship Galeb then entered the Thames River for the first time.

With ship Galeb, he sailed to the various statesmen of the world he advocated for a peaceful coexistence policy. This contributed to the holding of the first conference in Belgrade.

Non-aligned countries that have come to world peace.

For his life, the Predecessor spent a total of 480 days and passed about 157,000 km of times.

The biography of Tito’s “Galeb” is certainly one of the most beautiful in the world’s navy. In the seas and oceans of the world, he sailed countless miles, spreading among the countries of Europe,

Asia, Africa and Latin America, the vision of the peace of the lifelong president of the SFRY among the peoples.

At the time when the Yugoslav President did not use the ship, the ship served for the Yugoslav War Navy soldiers. They had several months of exercises on board so that they were well-trained and educated sailors in the event of war.

And allow me for one quotation of a man who often sails with a Galeb boat. On “Galeb” I spent my first internship. I was fortunate to be a member of the crew with whom Tito was on November 28, 1954,

Just off the river port, sailed on a long and unforgettable trip to India and Burma. It is truly incomprehensible that such a ship, with which all of the former republics of the SFRY should be proud,

Now dies in Rijeka’s port – says the admiral Yugoslav War Navy Martin Matosevic, now retired.

Now the Galeb is rotten at the moment, so it is with us. In fact, now with the Croats. Will it be flooded where divers as tourists pay for sightings or will be trained again remains to be seen.

  1. And Tito’s parrot Koko on Brijuni. It is a great tourist attraction and is still alive. Witnesses say that Koko hates swear at tourists.

  2. You wrote this nicely. Not only does the ship die … Unfortunately, almost everything that was built at that time is slowly disappearing.

    • Thank you very much. Sometimes it turns out well sometimes weaker. I’m afraid that I do not know well English and I use the google translator. There is one member who laughs at me for my writing and translation. But people are some kind of bad one.
