Boats Out of Water – 7

Port Townsend Boatyard

The boatyard in Port Townsend, Washington has a tradition of building, maintaining, repairing, and restoring wooden boats. The boatyard’s history with wooden boats is a big part of the town’s identity. All kinds of boats come here from small recreational crafts to rough and ready commercial fishing vessels. You never know what may show up or what kind of boats you’ll come across.

This one has just arrived and it looks like some kind of a boat rescue or salvage. Someone had spray painted “PLEASE SAVE ME” on the hull which makes me think it was sitting somewhere mired in muck for some time. I assume someone has stepped up to the plate to save her. It was probably made to be a fishing boat. I’m planning to keep my eye on this one and I hope to be able to post a picture of it restored and painted. It is a real beauty in waiting. At that time, I will link this post for the before and after pictures.

I did after camera work on this photo. I increased the contrast to bring out the spray painted message and help it be more readable. More ‘Boats Out of Water’ are coming so keep a good watch.

What do you think?

    • It made it to the boatyard so I believe it is being saved. Somebody trucked it in. That spray painted message made me imagine a listing boat sinking in the muck at low tide. There are people here who feel that same way intensely. When I’m down there they know I don’t belong or they would know me.
I will follow it. It may be several months but I will get a picture of it looking proud. They do it to make the boats proud again I think.
