19th Century Tombstones (‘Bloody Mary’) (2008-11-04 14-03-23a)
The photo was taken at Rosehill Cemetery, Chicago, Illinois. The tombstone on the left is for Charles M. Murray a Scottish immigrant who died on Dec 29, 1869. The tombstone on the right is for Ellen E. Edmunds who died on Feb 22, 1869.
The photo was taken with a Panasonic DMC-FZ50 camera with a Hoya linear polarizer. I used Luminar for Windows 1.0 (beta) to apply the ‘Bloody Mary’ preset and then added the Accent – AI Enhancer filter, lower the brightness and highlights and then open up the shadows a bit.

Very informative and unique article
You always seem to be tromping in the grounds where I have tromped in the past. Great images of the tombstones.
Thanks for sharing!
I don’t get to travel much anymore so I tend to stay focused on nearby places. This cemetery is a little more than a mile from my house. Plus, regardless of where I go, I keep my camera with me.
I find it interesting looking at old tombstones. I often wonder who the people are and what they were like.
Me too. Not always, but frequently I can find out something about them by googling them.
Beautifull pictues i like
Thanks. I appreciate your comments.
Yes Great very nice and beautifull
it’s too creepy for me 🙁
I was going for creepy.
great place for photograph
And it’s close to my house.
The tinting is great, the name of the filter is even better…
Kind of appropriate for a cemetery. The name actually refers to a preset. Luminar has a bunch of filters. You can create a combination of filters and save them as a preset to use on other photos in the future. The program comes with a bunch of presets and Bloody Mary was one of them.
Nice. Preset settings FTW
Wow this is really interesting!
Interesting photo and all the explanation presented. Surely a nice lesson through a nice work!
Impressive done manually practically. Love it, very cool effect.
Thanks, Kim. I really like the way it turned out also. Kinda spooky.
Spooky of course, what good is a sunny bright cemetery anyway. They need to be foggy and spooky. : )
I was surprised that on headstones that have a skull and crossbones it means they were not part of an organized religion.
Where do you get this idea, Trenna. The skull and crossbones motif is common in Catholic and Jewish cemeteries.
Nice post and nice picture
Thank you very much, Hafiz.
Very nicely done Gary. Good effects.
Thank you very much, Carol. I appreciate it.
Somehow, I always liked the view from the cemetery. Beautiful pictures, Gary
They are a great place to photograph.
Yes indeed they are.
