When my mother was older I remember her saying that her hands did not grip as well as they did when she was younger. Whilst my mother was a very capable person, I did not disbelieve her but the concept was not so easily understood.
However, now I am a lady of ‘a certain age’ I realise exactly what she meant. If I buy a small bottle of mineral water in a café where it is self-service, I often find that I have to ask the counter-staff to open the top for me.
Over the years I have had hobbies doing crafts and dressmaking and so far still make some clothes although threading the needle on the sewing machine is more of a test than hitherto.
My most recent example of ‘can do’ – or maybe not – I ordered new foam filler for two cushions on a Chesterfield sofa. No problem. All you do is pull out the existing filler and insert the new firm filler. Nothing exceptional about that action; however, I started and unzipped the cover and started to pull out the original filler. I pushed the cover down, I pulled the filler up – still determined I continued until eventually success, the old filler was removed.
Therefore, I thought just insert new filler and job done! Well after further pushing and realigning of new filler to get it square to the box piping I finally had to admit defeat. I was tired, my heart rate had increased and my energy level decreased. I hate being beaten, but had to admit that although the filler was nearly in two or three inches of foam showing at the edge was not the desired look.
I knew that at the weekend I would see my son so I duly arrived complete with leather cushion and protruding foam to say ‘help’.
Between my son and daughter-in-law they removed the foam repositioned it with the additional padding and together completed the task in about fifteen minutes.
There is a second cushion to be done so I was instructed not to bother to try but take it over and they would do that one.
I was delighted and pleased for the help but still annoyed with myself that I just couldn’t finish on my own.

It is hard when we get older that we cannot do things we once could.
We have to learn to change with the changes I suppose.
Still working on that one!
Now that I’m getting older, I find I have a bit of trouble doing the things I used to do. I guess everyone eventually has to deal with this.
Great post. Beatiful image
COOL
That’s how we are at age until a certain part of life. At first, we remain young and feel fine until the reality of the limitations increasingly confirms our true condition.
Sometimes it seems to rush up upon you even though mentally you still think you are decades younger!
Yes, that is so. I still always feel young except when I look in the mirror and called “Daddy!” by my adult girls. Hahayyy…
Nice.
