A Lot of Work but Worth It

My late friend’s bathroom came with carpeting on the floor.  Ugh, I had never seen that before and think it was a dumb idea.  Not his fault, it was just the way the house came.  Now that he has moved on to the Great Golf Course in the Sky I have rolled up my sleeves and started some long overdue remodeling.  I started by yanking out that gross carpet and prepping and sealing the subfloor.  Then, starting in the middle of the floor I began to lay down self-stick vinyl tiles which I think are very nice for 59 cents a square foot.  I am putting a drop of superglue in each intersection and quickly  spreading it with baking soda which makes it set faster and also blends in with the fake grout.

I have never done this before, but already it is so much better than what was there before that I am  ecstatic.  Once all the tiles are down,  which I hope to finish on the first room tonight, then I have the fun task of applying 2 more coats of sealant, followed by 4 coats of polish.  I am using the Zep brand, which dries ready for the next coat in 20 minutes.  It worked well on a wood-tiled entry that needed to be rescued from itself.    The product says not to use it on wood, but I thought I was going to cover it with something else anyway, and the gallon bottle is way more than I will need for the bathroom floors, so I tried it just to see what would happen.  The little entry is gorgeous now. I wish I had taken a before shot for comparison.  Like night and day.   Can’t wait to see how it works on the vinyl.

  1. Thanks LaJenna. I just now finally got all of the tiles in that room down and the first coat of sealant on top of them. Only 6 more coats to go in this room.
