My late friend’s bathroom came with carpeting on the floor. Ugh, I had never seen that before and think it was a dumb idea. Not his fault, it was just the way the house came. Now that he has moved on to the Great Golf Course in the Sky I have rolled up my sleeves and started some long overdue remodeling. I started by yanking out that gross carpet and prepping and sealing the subfloor. Then, starting in the middle of the floor I began to lay down self-stick vinyl tiles which I think are very nice for 59 cents a square foot. I am putting a drop of superglue in each intersection and quickly spreading it with baking soda which makes it set faster and also blends in with the fake grout.
I have never done this before, but already it is so much better than what was there before that I am ecstatic. Once all the tiles are down, which I hope to finish on the first room tonight, then I have the fun task of applying 2 more coats of sealant, followed by 4 coats of polish. I am using the Zep brand, which dries ready for the next coat in 20 minutes. It worked well on a wood-tiled entry that needed to be rescued from itself. The product says not to use it on wood, but I thought I was going to cover it with something else anyway, and the gallon bottle is way more than I will need for the bathroom floors, so I tried it just to see what would happen. The little entry is gorgeous now. I wish I had taken a before shot for comparison. Like night and day. Can’t wait to see how it works on the vinyl.
Wow! Isn’t it amazing?! I am honoured to know the real Wonder Woman. 🙂
Hah, hah, Zaklina, what a nice things to say. I think though that you yourself are the real Wonder Woman and I am just an apprentice. I don’t know what took me so long to find you on here, but so glad that I did.
I am flashing like a traffic light now. 😀 There are so many things I want to learn, and that makes me an apprentice too. The best thing is that we can exchange our experiences and ideas. 🙂
Yes, as it is harder to learn in a vacuum!
It looks great …. thanks for sharing
Thank you, I appreciate your visit.
Looks very nice. I have all hardwoods and will never go back to carpet.
Oh, I envy you that. As one of my places is upstairs it is not legal for me to swap out all of the carpet, but I was so glad when I got it ripped off my enclosed patio.
Probably the favorite thing in my home are my floors.
Now that I am learning to make cute little rugs I am all the more motivated to get rid of as much old carpet as I can.
You are the queen of DIY
In about a year I will love this house.
Don’t you mean palace, your majesty?
Actually, I’m in SoCal right now. The palace is up north.
I see that her majesty has increased her holdings. Was this by conquest or treaty?
A little bit of each, Alex. ‘Twas a posthumous gift from His Royal Highness. He departed to the Great Golf Course in the Sky and left me a fixer upper to fix up.
the best of both worlds
Good post, thank you for sharing.
Thank you for looking at my photo, Branka!
Thanks LaJenna. I just now finally got all of the tiles in that room down and the first coat of sealant on top of them. Only 6 more coats to go in this room.
Sounds and looks great!!!!!!!!!!
