Kiefer Sutherland Reprises ‘Flatliners’ Role

An upcoming science fiction/psychological horror film is not a remake of the earlier movie but rather a sequel, according to Kiefer Sutherland. Flatliners, the 2017 movie to be released on September 29th, revisits the same life-after-death theme as the original 1990 film of the same name.

I can remember watching that first film, being both fascinated and absolutely creeped out by it. The danger of stopping someone’s heart and potentially not being able to return them to life was nothing compared to what some of these young people saw on the other side. Many of the scenes had me sitting on the edge of my seat. Some even gave me goosebumps.

The premise of the sequel is again a group of medical students carrying out unauthorized experiments in which they stop one another’s hearts. Each of the young people has a different kind of experience while technically dead, before being brought back by their classmates. Sutherland reprises his role as Nelson Wright, now a doctor and a professor at the medical school. I am anxious to see how his character will learn of what the young students are up to, and how he will react to their experimentation.

The students in the sequel are played by Ellen Page, Diego Luna, Nina Dobrev, James Norton, and Kiersey Clemens. The movie is directed by Niels Arden Oplev (“The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo”) with a script by Ben Ripley (“Source Code.”) Filming took place in Toronto.

Did you watch the first Flatliners movie? Have you ever had a near-death experience, or wanted to know what happens after death?
