The Snowman – Movie review

This movie is based upon the book of the same name, writen by Jo Nesbø, “The Snowman”. Michael Fassbender is a detective Harry Hole who explores the disappearance of a woman whose scarf was wrapped around a snowman. Rebecca Ferguson, Toby Jones, J.K. Simmons and Chloë Sevigny also act in the movie.

Expectations were great and they hoped that the film would be a beginning of a trilogy of detective Harry Hole. Although the movie has its own good moments, like horrific murder scenes, sometimes even a vicious atmosphere, it has not offered anything more than that. In addition, one very irritating thing that does not bother me always, but here it did bother me. They all speak English, sometimes with a bad English accent, and all the names, characters, cities, and even songs are Norwegian. Personally, that was very irritating and unconvincing to me. They should have changed everything to be American, or they should have all spoken in Norwegian languages since everything is about Norway.

Still, as I wrote above, it’s not all so black. The film has some good moments, such as brutal serial killings, sometimes a vicious atmosphere. There are some moments in the beginning of the movie where it holds your attention. This movie is a big disappointment, since the book is awesome. They didn’t manage to put this book on screen in a good way. My advice is to read this book, but don’t watch the movie. It is not worth spending your time.
