I will start this post off with a sign posted at the entrance of the Lavenderia or open air laundry.
It may be hard to read, here is what is written: Lavenderias – Indian Launderies –
Where Indians washed clothes every week. Water sprouted forth from Gargoyles and passed out from tile pools into orchards of fruit trees. (Pears, Peaches, Figs, etc.) Vegetables. Watermelons.
Sunken Gardens were surrounded by adobe walls. Cactus planted along the walls.
Below is the cover and is the main entrance.
And here it is in color. I loved the arches. There were many gates leading into gardens and lavenderia.
Come take a walk with me into the old west. I mentioned that there were many gates.
A simple arch.
The side gate.
You start off on a path that leads to a giant kiln. Here is the path.
Here is the kiln.
Then the laundry. It’s so big you can’t get it in one frame.
Here are the other parts.
Great irrigation channels.
And the gargoyles.
Stay tuned for more of the mission in my next posts.
