Every Home Should Have a Book About Ancient Rome

Over 40 years ago when I was a newlywed one of my happy-home-building goals was to set up a private library.  My mother always kept a Bible, a dictionary, a set of encyclopedias, the complete works of William Shakespeare, and lots of other books in our house.  As with most newly married couples, our funds were extremely limited.  I wanted to put quality books in our home library but did not have the money so I joined a book club.  As I recall, to join the club your first order was 10 books for $1 and I had to pay for the shipping. Included in my first order was a book about the ancient Roman empire. I love that book!!  In fact, I love learning about ancient Rome. What about you?

NOTE:  Although Alexander the Great was a hero of ancient Greece, the empire of ancient Rome was strongly influenced by his Hellenization efforts.

  1. The reality of the modern world, almost all the books I own now, are on my Kindle and my iphone (audible).

a personal library that is much smaller and easier to use in the end.

    • Yes. Kindle and audiobooks are wonders of the modern world. But I like the idea of escaping into my personal library, holding a hard copy or paperback book in my hands, turning the pages and entering the world created by that particular book. It’s a wonder-filled childhood memory.
