Book of The Week: The Book of Joy

This is my simple religion. There is no need for temples; no need for complicated philosophy. Our own brain, our own heart is our temple; the philosophy is kindness.- Dalai Lama

Imagine two spiritual leaders and Nobel prize winners writing a book. It must be a bestseller. The authors of the Book of Joy are Dalai Lama and Desmond Tutu together with Douglas Carlton Abrams, which makes this book perfect for a bestseller according to New York Times.

The authors, His Holiness Dalai Lama and Archbishop Desmond Tutu are the masters of teaching spirituality and happiness, since they survived oppression, exile and hardship in their lives. And they remained happy!

They started the book, which was meant to be a gift to the world, by asking themselves one question: How do we find joy in the face of life’s inevitable suffering?

The source of inspiration and the answers was found in their experience and life paths. During a week long conversations and sharing experiences, tears and joy, they explore the Nature of True Joy and confront each of the Obstacles of Joy—from fear, stress, and anger to grief, illness, and death. They outline the Eight Pillars of Joy, which are necessary for lasting happiness. Throughout, they share stories, wisdom, and science. Finally, they teach us Joy Practices, that we need to practice daily in order to maintain happiness and spiritual  balance.

Treat this book as a spiritual leader in your life. It is a precious gift that two extremely powerful people gave to us in order to be happy. Read it and see for yourself that it can change your lives! Enjoy!
