Sing to me my friend
Gentle giant of the blue sea
Tell me your story
I grew up in Gloucester, Massachusetts a fishing community in New England. We are a few nautical miles from Stellwagon Bank, a Marine Mammal Sanctuary off the Massachusetts coast that is frequently the summer home for whales. This photo was taken during a family excursion with Captain Bill’s Whale Watch from Gloucester. We were lucky enough to see several of these majestic creatures. during the 19th and twentieth centuries whales were hunted almost to extinction. The brave and persistent work of various environmental groups led to a moratorium on commercial whaling and in Massachusetts, the introduction of legislation to create a sanctuary for marine mammals in Stellwagon Bank.
What a great photo and story. Love to hear about animal sanctuaries.
Thank you Carol. I’m glad you liked it 🙂
You are most welcome.
