Christmas Tree Ornaments That Aren’t Very Christmas-y

When I was a kid Christmas ornaments tended to be ball-shaped and usually red, blue or silver. There were some variations but not much. That seems to have changed. Here are a few, shall I say, unusual Christmas ornaments.

Several of them come from a vendor at Chicago’s german Christmas Market. In Germany vendors will often set up booths in the town square to sell their crafts. For some time some of these craftsmen come to Chicago and set up their booths in the Loop. The program has expanded to not only include the Loop but the suburb of Naperville and, for the first time this year, just outside of Wrigley Field, home of the Chicago Cubs.

The others were photographed at a store called Cost Plus World Market. This store, actually a chain of stores, specializes in selling items from around the world.

Hedgehog Christmas Ornaments (2011-12-01 14-55-51a)

OK, when it comes to cute, it's hard to beat a pudgy little hedgehog. However, if there is a connection between them and Christmas, no one ever told me about it. This one also came from the German Christmas Market.
