Pastels: A New/Old Way to Tell a Story

I’ve always loved pastels because of they are immediate. The Textures they provide allow energy into an image and now I am capturing ideas on a daily basis. I drive through the country. I watch families interacting, I watch the landscape change as a storm comes through.

All of these ideas are immediate with the use of pastels. Instead of a longer process of an oil painting, the rough idea of an image becomes quickly almost like the delayed shutter of the camera.

Here is just a snapshot of life through the eyes of a pastel painter. Hope you enjoy.

A man stands in a doorway before a storm.

A couple enjoy an infant on the beach.

Kids still climb trees.
