Early Reader Books: Dear Zoo, by Rod Campbell

This delightful little book is about a youngster looking for a perfect pet. He writes to the zoo but they send him animals like a snake, an elephant, a lion, a monkey and a giraffe. Each animal is deemed unsuitable for being too big or too heavy or too naughty and sent back.

Will the little guy get a suitable pet? Like my daughter, you will have to read the book Dear Zoo: A Lift-The-Flap Book to find out. As the young readers have to lift a flap to discover which animal the zoo has sent, it is almost like unwrapping a gift to discover what is inside.

An ideal book for early readers with simple text and an element of surprise.

Tip:

Encourage the child to give his or her own reasons why a snake, an elephant or a giraffe cannot be suitable pets or which animal they would like to receive from the zoo or pet shop.
