An Old Two-Family House at 5733 North Ridge, Chicago, Illinois (2015-04-01 13-21-58a)

The building was built in 1900. Note that there are two front doors. This is a two-family house but a lot of people had a problem with sharing a door with another family. The attitude sprung from having lived in single-family homes. To deal with this attitude, architects put in two separate front doors. This didn’t last long, however. There are many homes built within a few years in which people shared front doors.

The photo was taken with a Nikon Coolpix P7700 camera. I used ACDSee Ultimate 2018 to adjust the perspective and crop, adjust the lighting and increase the contrast and clarity.

    • Chicago has a lot of two-flats where the first floor and second floor are two different apartments. This one seems to be different. It’s two apartments but split down the middle.

  1. I really like that house but if I had the money, I would buy both of them and get rid of the neighbors and live all by my lonesome in such a grand mansion. Plenty of room to wander about, get exercises cleaning all these areas, going up and down the stairs and a lot of cats and maybe two dogs to keep me company. Sorry if I seem to rant and rave but I wish I was living alone sometimes.

    • It would take a lot of work to turn this into a single-family house. There is a mansion in my neighborhood that’s for sale. Right across the street from Lake Michigan. Not sure what they’re asking.
