SS Savannah-Steamboat.
Memories-Anniversaries
SS Savannah was an American hybrid sailing pile built in the USA in 1819.
Launched: August 22, 1819
He had sails and used steam as a propulsion. He became known for being the first ship of its kind to sail the Atlantic Ocean.
He started his first trip on May 22, 1919June 20,1819 arrived from the Georgia port of USA to the English port of Liverpool. It took him a full 28 days to swim across the Atlantic Ocean.During the trip, he used only steam at some moments, which was obtained by burning wood.In other cases he used sails for navigation. On his arrival in England he caused a great deal of juice. He was temporarily seized by the English Navy, fearing it would not be used for the liberated Napoleon III from the island of Saint Helena where he was captured. For various reasons, it failed to achieve commercial success. He ended up stranded strangely on the shores of Long Island. But the story of the first steamboat to cross the Atlantic Ocean remained.

interesting hybrid- steam and sails…
Lovely boat, like this picture.
Thank you very much Pamela.
Very cool history, thanks for this history Robin.
I think it was nice to remember how steamboat development began.
That was true 200 years ago.
This was also a great technology of that time
Yes Witty. It is a combination of sailing and steam propulsion.
Miracle for that time .
ten years later the reality of steam ships was huge!
Exactly Doc, like any technology, is accelerating its development.
It is interesting to watch throughout history the rise of one, the fall of the last.
This is an addition to several such stories that have travelled down history
I’m glad you read the story and were reminded of the first voyage of a steamboat from America to England.
