I am blessed with some truly great friends. This one came from some that I have not spoken to in a couple of years. Apparently, he follows everything that I write that he can find published. I knew he had purchased my books, but had no idea he followed my other writings.
“Have people become so defensive that they simply cannot handle being told that someone disagrees with their premise?”
I needed more clarification. So I asked.
Here were his thoughts. “Well, I see you write on a site where there is and up vote and a down vote. I can see that it is useful in the ranked posts, the other times it just lets the writer know if you liked their work or not. It doesn’t affect their pay, status, or anything. Since many seem to take it so personally it seems like the site would have two options. Like a good parent they would either say grow up and deal with it, or remove it from the site. I see it is not based in the United States, but has rules that many people don’t follow or understand.
My reply, “I don’t have a great answer for that one.”
Why don’t you just stop?

Do you think it is time to stop?

Facebook only have a like button … so you can’t “dislike” something …
I guess no “likes” is better than a “dislike”.
I don’t care about likes and dislikes. I just want to not feel harassed. Why can’t someone just pretend I don’t exist. Seems like a simple request.
If by “she” you mean ghostwriter may I politely ask to stop.
I know the first time I downvoted a post the young man I downvoted, came back and did 10 of mine. I didn’t care, But I do understand the question.
If no one really uses it for fear of reaction, why not remove the option.
Hard to say and I don’t take the word of others how things will change I wait until the site makes a decision and tells all. I do not that you can’t politely ask people to leave you alone and stay away. That doesn’t work. There should be a block as well.
I think a block is a good idea. MyLot has one, as does Twitter, Facebook and so on. We shall see.
Many can see obvious issues going on but nothing we can do about it.
That’s very true. I think a block would be a very useful tool. Until I see something from the site I will just continue to do what they told me to do, even though I will have survive a number of firestorms that are totally unnecessary. Maybe I should just invisible.
