The name gladiol comes from the Latin “gladius” – the sword, gladiolus – a small sword and they have protected the name with the swordlike shape of their leaves. Gladiolus combines a large number of cultural forms resulting from selection. In the natural environment, gladiolus is found primarily in the tropical and subtropical regions of Africa, south of the Sahara, the Mediterranean, and some of the temperate regions of Europe, Central Asia. Varieties have been created with a huge variety of colors – snow-white, all rainbow colors to dark, almost black. They can be in clear tones or with two colors.
