I’m really lucky to have this wonderful garden and wilderness area just 15 minutes from my home. With free entrance, it comprises a large area of formal gardens, as well as a larger area of nature reserve, comprising part of the left bank of the Slaney River.

Spiderwort (Tradescantia) was introduced from the New World in the 17th century. I read in Wikipedia that they have also been used as bioindicators for the detection of environmental mutagens. And no, I don't know what that means 🙂

Norman photos are perfect. I am amazed at the fact that the lake is dug by hand.
In the 1800s, everything was done by hand! Labour was cheap and people needed work. It was a big job, for sure!
