Saint James Episcopal Church, known to locals as “The Red Church” is one of the oldest Episcopal Churches in our area,.it was formally Anglican, and was built in 1859 using the Carpenter Gothic Style, it’s board and batten exterior wars were built using California Redwood and are painter red. The grounds were concencrated in 1870 by the Rt Reverned William Ingraham Kip, first bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of California. The Red Church is the oldest Episcopal Church in California and believed to be the Seventh Episcopal Parish in the U,S.

Beautiful church with quite a history! It is amazing that some of these old buildings from the 1800’s are still standing and in good condition! That speaks well for the redwood used in building!
