Words! Still Like them

I don’t know about you, I find myself using phrases all the time and then one day I stop and think. Where did I learn that, what does it really mean and am I using it correctly?

This morning I said “Well for goodness sake.” I know what I think it means but I had no idea what the origin was.  As near as I can tell it is a way to avoid using the Lords name in vain. It is a euphemistic replacement of “God” in for God’s sake.

I was using it correctly as a voice of frustration, but I certainly don’t blame God for that.

I sincerely appreciate those of you who take the poll.

  1. One of the best ways you can learn about words and how to use them to your advantage is doing some content writing work. I did this for a while and my first time was interesting in that I was asked to write up some information four or more different ways. So like you have to start thinking how many different ways you can rewrite something so that all of them look original. it was great training.
