What to Eat to Live Longer and Better? – Part I

Food is essential for breathing, thinking and living. However, there are some that are especially important in extending our life, in time and quality. These are the foods that cannot be missed on your table:

Nuts – Nuts are rich in tryptophan, an amino acid that stimulates serotonin, the happiness hormone. Individuals who eat nuts regularly will have higher levels of this hormone, being able to manage stress better and have a more stable mood.

Spiruline – It is a seaweed rich in B vitamins and fat-soluble vitamins A, E and K. It is rich in iron and chlorophyll, giving it a detoxifying and antibacterial power, helping to strengthen our immune system. It is also rich in carotenes and calcium, preventing vision and bone diseases.

Red fruits (blackberries, raspberries and blueberries) – These are relatively low calorie fruits rich in vitamins, minerals and phytochemicals that protect our immune system and decrease inflammation. They are pure and essential antioxidants in our daily diet.

Broccoli – Highly nutritious cruciferous vegetable rich in minerals, vitamins, protein, dietary fiber and phytonutrients. Its greatest benefit lies in its richness in bioflavonoids, which protect against various types of tumors. To preserve its properties, it is ideal to steam it for a short time.

Green tea – Green tea is rich in phytochemicals that are critical to our health, such as anthocyanins and catechins. Both are antioxidants that fight inflammation (the natural consequence of aging) and block the oxidation of cancer-causing cells. One cup of tea a day is enough to have an impact on our long term health.
