What Does Qualilty Mean to You?

Today the question was raised, how is the quality of your post. That is a loaded question and definitely means different things to different people. Many posts are written because it is a topic that interests the writer. Their fulfillment comes from doing the research and creating the post that means something to them or perhaps it is about something that they recently learned.

Many people write for the joy of writing, and learning. They really don’t care if others find it valuable. Their purpose was served and if someone else is interested and learns something or laughs all the better.

Writing sites tend to commit suicide because they simply become a tight sharing circle.  There are no new members. There are few outside views and revenue simply dries up. I suppose if someone was truly anxious to help a writing site, they would research and write about topics that people outside of the site would be interested in reading.

I don’t comment for the sake of commenting. If I have something to add or I find something very interesting I comment. If I have to use characters to fill up the number of spaces, I don’t comment because that gives no real value to the writer or those reading.

I think it would be fascinating if one of the senior writers who are very savvy were to hand out some titles and keywords to writers and suggestion they create the post. Team work that brings outsiders to the site gives a site longevity.

I find the mammal in the photo fascinating and interesting. I think you know what this mamal is you should write an interesting article about it. It could be a quality post that brings ohters to the site. What say you?

  1. Yes and no. Lol. I do care about the quality of the “quizzes” I make but not of my writing skill – vocab and grammar aren’t my strong points. I find value, sometimes from the number of views so I’d guess it’s hard for me to judge the value of my writings.

I admit I do comment for the sake of comment sometimes. If a post is interesting enough for me to click in, then I try to comment without breaking the T&C else I at least make the effort to upvote. There are a few writers I’d read their posts whenever I see one but I just comment on those I could make interesting comments and upvote or give a reaction to the rest.

Activities are low here … I’d try to make others know that people are still reading their posts.

    • Ahh, then I would deem you a great neighbor. You do what it best for all for the sake of making this place work. There was a time when I did that as well. Now I don’t spend a whole lot of time here. I love writing and good conversations. I am not fond of name calling and whining. It is not easy to find a good balance.

I was once very vested, but I don’t know that it made me happy. I am working on the being happy part.

      • Yeah, in the end people will only stay if this place makes them happy.
But I think Virily needs to be a little more consistent for that to happen.

I’m not a good enough neighbour … but will try to become one. 🙂

  2. You asked very good questions.
I read posts and comment those I understand and understand.
Although there are others. For us, our proverb says that “The goal does not choose the means”
