Waterlilies have been my favorite flowers since childhood. There were no ponds or lakes where we lived so I only got to see waterlilies when I went to the local hospital.
I often went there just to see the flowers and collect some special feed for my rabbits. I really don’t know what they were, but the gardener there told me that rabbits loved that weed and they would give me many bunnies if I fed them to the rabbits. We made a deal that I would give him a pair of bunnies if my rabbits gave bunnies.
Well we did have around forty rabbits and yes you guessed it right, the gardener got his share. I begged him for the waterlilies, but he said that the Medical superintendent would know if he pulled out the plants. Besides I would need a huge tank for those, which I clearly didn’t have then.
We became great friends the gardener and I, he was some fifty something and I was 8 at that time. Suddenly one day things changed the gardener was not to be seen. When I asked his assistant he said that the gardener died of snake bite. I never went back to the hospital again.
When I see the waterlilies in my garden I often think of him.

Very pretty in pink Dawn. Great for the challenge.
These are beautiful plants. I see them very rarely.
Great flower choice, mine is the honeysuckle flower.
Great picture, dear friend
beauty and sadness such a moving and powerful story.
The gardener shared great wisdom and love with you. I am sorry he was lost in such a hard way.
My sister used to raise rabbits!
I really didn’t know then I was very deeply hurt by his death, but i figured that out 21 years later. I have never shared this story before, sometimes you just need to let go.
sometimes you have to let go. The reality of where we are is always interesting. i know that loss often hides in the shadows.
That is true, it does hide in the deep dark shadows of the mind. Bringing it to the fore and letting go brings immense relief and freedom.
my wife says that people operate from a mixed bag. that bag determines where we are at any one moment. But also sets the bar for us to improve!
That is true, we do operate from mixed bags. It takes effort and understanding to know where we are acting from. We’ve got to dig deep – Know yourself as Socrates would say.
