Wander project in and out of history

Before, I’ve mentioned my father’s friend Millburn Weaver who used to drive a school bus and always said that when I started late, I got there late. Today was now yesterday, but it was today and then yesterday was my first day back to work after vacation. Sadly, as is normally the case when you return to work, I have lots of work to do, unfortunately also have a two-day off-site meeting. What that means is I’m not going to catch up this week until probably Thursday or Friday. Now it happens as part of the life course. The other thing is I’ll be starting earlier both days to get the ball rolling. So today, I’m going to wander Alexandria again, in pictures. It was really fun the kind of wander around the city and see things. There is something about history, see, versus history read.

When you see history or you are immersed in history, the world seems somehow different. And maybe that’s just me. It might be a dock thing; I don’t know. I always come upon landing in a place knowing that that place had Bob Loblaw historical significance always wanted to go to the spot of historical significance. When I used to travel internationally, my rule of thumb was land, get to the hotel, unpack and then take a walk. Once the walk was done, I had time to figure out where the historical monuments were and go to those. Sometimes it took a couple of days because sometimes I would land and go to a meeting right away. Sometimes I would land after flying for 24 hours and be so tired I would walk and then take a nap. Walk and walking always help reduce the jet lag overall. The reality is, however, jet lag sometimes is not a problem for me.

Being of Danish and Irish descent, I have to acknowledge that a few times walking through the Royal enclave in Copenhagen, I hope the royal family would run out to greet their long-lost relatives. That never happened, but I did think about it every time I walk through that courtyard of the Royal enclave. The reason I bring that up is that that was a historic opportunity. I walked through the Royal enclave of Copenhagen at different times. Over the years that I traveled, including in the US, there are only a few historical places left in the world where I haven’t been. Of course, there is also the do I want to go there?. One of them is Rio de Janeiro or the river of January in Brazil. The other place that I’m want to go to that I’ve never been to is Bali. In fairness, I did not want to go to Bali after reading the book to eat pray love, actually to go there long before that book came out.
