The use of turmeric in curries and dishes is well known. Turmeric is also used as a remedy for skin infections and even wounds.
Turmeric leaves are used for making sweet snacks like the one that is seen in the image. It is a rice preparation. The rice paste is applied to the leaves and stuffed with a coconut and jaggery mixture. the leaves are closed firmly and then steamed.
Turmeric leaves have a nice aroma and this snack gets its aroma – a delectable snack.

I will definitely try to grow it again this year – that is the only way I will have access to the leaves!
I hope you will be able to pick up a fresh but seasoned rhizome. If you store it for a while and wait for it to sprout in storage on its own you can then plant it. But nothing like getting a plant that has a rhizome.
