Here is a picture of a horse fly I took a couple of days ago sunning itself on my morning glory. These flies are commonly seen in summer then they disappear.However they do come back faithfully every season.
These are such terrible pests, thankfully they don’t get inside our home. They are very annoying. They are okay in the garden as long as they don’t try to sit on my hands and face. They are also probably here because of the manure I have been drying out on the terrace.

They are annoying especially the horses. We are upset at the fact that there is a fly at home.
I would understand why you would be upset. I hate these getting inside our homes, They somehow mange tom get in in summer.
I have never heard about horse flies, I think we don’t have it here.
Hmm I am sure you have, but maybe in places where there are cattle.

Yes, the horse flies used to bite us growing up around my grandparent’s farm.
Hmm in the city we don’t have too many cattle , maybe that is why I am spared.
Flies can be very annoying indeed. A horse fly ia also an expression for annoying people here.

horse flies more, because they have a powerful bite/sting to draw blood and it hurts!
They do sting ,I agree but do they draw blood? I am not sure.
horseflies do, and they sting hard to draw blood through thick horse skin!
Thank God I have never been bitten by these terrible creatures.
they have a relative (deer fly) that are out in the woods of Maryland (along with Horse flies) on the walk they get us all the time.
One of the few bugs I will actually kill given the option.
I need to look up the deer fly, I don’t think we have them around these parts.

I like to photograph flies, but I don’t want them around me too long! I like the red eyes of this fly!
