Enjoying the blooms of my purple Iris in my garden. They seemed to have bloomed overnight. Another surprise in my yard. Love the deep purple color. More perennials I love to have, not much maintenance at all and they return each year. Irises are deer resistant and drought tolerant. They can survive the hot temperatures with no problem.
Facts about the Iris:
The iris is the French royal standard fleur-de-lis and also the symbol of Florence, Italy.
Oral root, taken from the dried roots of Iris Florentia, was considered a cure for blood and lung diseases, and teething babies were encouraged to gnaw on a piece of dried root for its natural fluoride.
