Palak Paneer

Palak paneer is the most nutritious vegetarian dish – a favourite among Indians. It is made from spinach and cottage cheese. 

Paneer (cottage cheese)  is cut into square pieces, deep fried and kept aside.  Spinach is cooked in tempered onions and the requisite ingredients are then added  The main ingredient  is the ginger garlic paste that gives this gravy  great taste. 

The fried cottage cheese is then added.  This is best eaten with chapatis or parathas.

  1. This is one of my favourite dishes and I often cook variants of it. One thing I have found is that western cottage cheese tends to be very loose and does not react well to frying. If you can’t find paneer, an excellent substitute is halloumi cheese which is available in all supermarkets here, can be treated exactly like paneer, and has a similar taste and texture.
