At first, you would think that OTTESSA MOSHFEGH is writing an autobiographical novel, that’s how it really looks. I even searched for info if it is real.
“My Year of Rest and Relaxation” is about how the main heroine takes a handful of all kinds of psychotropic medication to sleep and escape the world. For me, she seemed to be really in need of help, she searched for it, and searched a way she understood.
And the psychiatrist that she chose helps only a little – prescribes here various drugs without even delving into the patient’s problems. Although a character and a freak, but I understand it, sometimes you really want to fall asleep and not see how strange and alien is that world to you.
The irrational use of psychotropic drugs is not only a problem in America.

I have never thought that the use of drugs to escape from reality is the way to do things. It just complicated your life and might also lead to early death
