My daily picture – Common bugloss( Anchusa officinalis)

It is the spontaneous plant found in our country through pastures, dry meadows, on the edges of forests, roads, from the plain to the mountainous region. Sometimes  it is cultivated in the gardens. The plant can reach up to 1 m heights.

The plant provides a great deal of nectar for pollinators. It was rated in the top 10 for most nectar production.

Young leaves and shoots can be cooked like spinach. Flowers can be added to the food or used as a salad dressing garnish. From the roots, you can get a red paint that was used to  color oil or grease for a more beautiful shade.

  1. Those have got to be the most beautiful little flowers ever. We also have here flowers growing wild but I do not think I have seen ones as pretty as your bugloss. Very nice closeup of a deep blue flower.
