I was on Literacy Base but stopped going there since almost two years as they do not pay. Strangely I see many users continuing to write there, comment and send messages.
I asked a question to one of those users who are regular there and came to know why they write there. The posts written there are packed with offers and referral links and those posts are shared with several social sites.
In other words the site is used as a place to advertise. Me being naive is an understatement.

Would you write at sites that do not pay, with ulterior motives?

Yes

No

I used to write on a site called Buzzel but it did not pay but people saw my work and some were interested in what I do. After I started working on sites that pay I stopped writing for them.
It is OK to write where they do not pay if you like to write there But LB was paying and suddenly stopped – a disgusting thing to do.
I was writing there and earned some money but left when it stopped paying.
Same here but that site is still active.
Virily is enough for me, my friend
I too am contented with Virily
I have two blogs that I am not making any money with that is enough for me.
It is amazing that there is a lot of activity at LB
There are few writing sites out there that do not pay but they still have a lot going on. I know of q few poetry and novel writing sites that do not pay but there are many members.
That is OK. I too write there but those that stop paying is what I am amazed when writers continue to post.
I wouldn’t. I like writing for sites that offer writing services while majority of their work is to market and promote articles.
Neither would I. I have no marketing to be done
It’s a waste of time and effort
Users there are hoping against hope that they will be paid. It is well over two years and they have not paid but the site is active.
I think i should write for such sites
I see some posting and advertising their work
