Chicago, Illinois (Edgewater neighborhood)
Nikon Coolpix P7700
The plant was growing in a neighbor’s garden in his front yard.
Joe Pye Weed – Order Asterales : Family Asteraceae (Sunflowers) : Tribe Eupatorieae : Genus Eutrochium
The plant does not get its name from a person but the Native Americans called it jopi. It is native to the USA and Canada.
Editing was done with On1 Photo RAW 2020. In Develop mode I increased contrast, midtones, shadows and structure and decreased highlights, whites and blacks. Under Color I increased the vibrance a bit. I used the ‘Landscape – Forest’ preset in the ‘Starting Points’ category and added the Sharpening (Find Amazing Detail) filter.

Although Joe Pye Weed is considered to be a wildflower, the plant I photographed was in a neighbor’s garden. If you have a garden, do you grow plants in it that are native to your area?

I grow native plants in my garden but not wild ones.
Do you mean the cultivars that are being developed for a lot of native plants?
That is an interesting looking plant.
Thank you. It’s the more out-of-the-ordinary plants that usually get my attention.
I have several of them in my garden and they grow as weeds but we have not uprooted them. The flowers here are white in colour. Thanks for the name.
I’ve seen white ones around also.
I have not heard of this native flower, how beautiful.
It’s usually found in wetland areas but a lot of people seem to have them in their gardens also.
